This app contains more than 2000 chess opening variations and you can extend it.

This app is a virtual chess opening book. It contains more than 2000 opening variations all easily browserable from the opening list.Besides being an chess opening encyclopedia you can also store your own personal notes concerning any of the more than 2000 variations. All notation is in algebraic figurine notation. You can also bookmark the variations you are most interested in for faster access later on.Finally you can share variations and position diagrams by email, sms or social networks with your friends for discussion! Opening lines can also be exported to pgn files. The opening book can be expanded by adding your own moves as well to the database and as the ONLY chess opening app on Google Play you can backup or transfer your custom moves, notes and bookmarks to other devices (built-in cloud support in the app).Start to improve your chess opening knowledge today!IMPORTANT NOTE: This book contains most of the opening variations as defined by ECO codes (which covers more than 2000). Its NOT a comprenhensive list of ALL chess opening theory and ECO (Encyclopedia of Chess Openings) contains both "good" and "bad" opening variations. ECO is the global standard for classification of chess opening variations - it does *NOT* judge quality of openings. Just like the ISBN system of books does not judge quality of normal books. You need to understand standard chess notation for chess moves to be able to use this app.If you like this app you might be interested in the sister app called "Chess Endings" - search for that on Android market.Permissions of SD-card read/write is used for storage of temporary position diagrams and pgn files.Note: the export to pgn file and export to png image feature are only available with android version 2.2 or higher.Version 1.90: added pawn promotion.

Cute Graphics but very precise and I kind of like it. They are crystal clear on Androids 6 and 7. I have not found any app like this before , the more you use it the more you will appreciate the work that has been put in to it until it eventually becomes a gem. You can make Openings with notes (press to save) and then continue on into the Middle Game with notes all through (just seperate your opening segments by giving them a name and same with Middle Game then find them in the opening list

Third edit. While the app is good, I noticed it cannot deal or cope with transpositions. eg. if you enter 1.d4 f5 2.Nf3 and you add Black's reply 2...Nf6, you will notice that this reply is not there if you start with 1.Nf3 f5 2.d4, which is just the same position but with another move order. Apps that do not cope with transpositions should not be called repertoire apps, but just game recording apps with side variations. Substracted 2 stars for this. An app should be called what it is and not be sold for what it isn't. Previous review: Best repertoire app since it allows for the user to build his own repertoire.

In the text, the symbols for king and queen seem to be mixed up for at least some of the openings. Or maybe that's the font. I would like to change from symbols to KQRBNP if possible. Please update. The symbols are fine on my phone but not on my tablet. It must be a font thing. Anyways good resource.

There Should be a reset the opening once you go to the openings, ie: reset position for the start of another opening

Mr. A

Nice little app for those new to chess openings.

A Google user

This app is excellent ..you have a nice opening foundation and as you look through lines ..if you see you need to add to it ..this app allows for it ..as we know chess lines do change and this app allows for this and has the new moves you entered in..in a different color so you know what ones you added as they build up over time..also there is a feature that opened up an app I have to analyse position so if you are tactic checking for some hole in your repertoire this feature is here .fantastic app

Lan DiBart

Great features.

Robert Rowan

Horrible graphic, the resolution of the board is low.

Lists very few moves. This app is a scam. I agree with the Tze-wei Lim about the limitations. Don't buy.

This is a total scam. Most of the variations last 4 moves long at the most. Some include 6-7 moves max. Any chess book for intermediate players will have more material than this. When I wrote to Martin Knudsen of Pondar, this is what he wrote back: "I don't care about your opinion. Stop wasting my time. I am blocking your emails now, so don't bother writing back." This app should be taken down as it is a total scam. Chessbase has so much more useful material. This app is useless. For egs, Scandinavian - Kiel variation: 1.e4 d5, 2.exd5 Nf6, 3.d4 Nxd5, 4.c4 Nb4, and it ends there. Scandinavian - Icelandic Gambit: 1.e4 d5, 2.exd5 Nf6, 3.c4 e6, and it ends there. This variation is much longer than this. Scandinavian - Anderssen counter-attack: 1.e4 d5, 2.exd5 Qxd5, 3.Nc3 Qa5, 4.d4 e5, 5.dxe5 Bb4, 6.Bd2 Nc6, 7.Nf3, and it ends there. Scandinavian - Marshall variation: 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5, 3.Nc3 Qa5, 4.b4, and it's over. Alekhine's Defence - Brooklyn defence: 1.e4 Nf6, 2.e5 Ng8, and it's over. 2 move line. Alekhine's Defence - Kmoch variation: 1.e4 Nf6, 2.e5 Nd5, 3.Bc4 Nb6, 4.Bb3 c5, 5.d3, and that's it. - Spielmann variation: 1.e4 Nf6, 2.Nc3 d5, 3.e5 Nfd7, 4.e6..., end.
